SUSU Interior Design 2010 :: Autumn and winter
Wool – the original eco material, fully biodegradable and renewable each year
11 – 17 October 2010 is wool week and autumn is certainly the time to be thinking about cosy warm fabrics. With natural qualities and rustic charm British wool is the perfect accessory for country and city interiors alike.
There are many cottage industries, from weavers to spinners, and blankets, bedding, fabrics and clothing are an ideal way to bring warmth to those cold autumn and winter days ahead, so choose from tweeds, plaids, carpets, cushions and even insulation.
Colours are welcoming and can transform a cold room into one that is inviting. Think of mellow oatmeal, soft sage, gentle heather and warming damson.
Companies like Real Shetland sell throws made by crofters and each one comes with a card by the crofter that made it. They are also supporting HRH the Prince of Wales Support British Wool over the next five years and you can read more about this on SUSU Organic
This picture of Ollaberry Shetland wool fabric is available from linwoodfabric.co,uk and the beautiful cushions are from anta.co.uk, who also sell furniture.
You can also buy beautiful organic tweed clothes and throws from Ardalanish farm on the Isle of Mull. Find them on SUSU Organic
So much information, so many decisions
Fashions in Interior design used to change every few years. Decades were pretty structured with G plan furniture in the 70’s and minimalism with neutrals in the 90’s.
Things have changed! Interiors products are now following fashion design with each season. I think that yellow will feature heavily next year with vibrant peacock greens, so watch this space!
There are so many influences, so many products to choose from, so many colours and textures to put together successfully. SUSU Interior Designers can take away the stress, with designs to suit your lifestyle, your personality, your budget.

Time constraints
With today’s stressful lifestyle, many people simply do not have the time, or inclination, to trawl the shops or organise tradesmen.
Honey I ruined the house
Following a huge increase in design programmes and magazines, the general public are undertaking interior decorating projects themselves and making expensive mistakes which can depreciate the value of their home. Even copying a colour scheme from a magazine exactly will not work if the room is smaller/larger/faces north instead of south/has lower or higher ceilings/is modern instead of Victorian/is used by untidy teenagers or has small children or a dog etc. etc. etc.
Confused, bewildered, can’t agree on a colour scheme?
SUSU Interior Designers have the knowledge and expertise to suit the taste and lifestyle of individual clients. We can introduce fresh ideas and new concepts to partners with conflicting taste in colour schemes to help them find something to suit them both. |
